Founded in 2017 in New York’s Upper Delaware Valley, The Outside Institute helps people connect to the healing and transformative powers of nature, fostering joy and environmental stewardship.
To extend this mission and reach new audiences, I partnered with founder Laura Silverman to conceptualize, develop, and co-write a multi-volume series of seasonal field guides. Designed for beginning naturalists, these guides introduce readers to the region’s most prevalent flora, fauna, and fungi, featuring detailed illustrations, clear identification notes, usage information, and recipes.
The first volume, Summer, sold out in just three weeks and was featured by Gardenista (“the book we’re all coveting”) and And North. The guides are now stocked at select cultural and hospitality destinations including Hauser & Wirth Bookshop, Marlow & Daughters, Best Made Company, Flower Power, Foxfire Mountain House, and The DeBruce.
